MacBooks are closed with two magnets in the top corners of the screen. I wondered how I could put them to further use. This is what I came up with:

A UK penny and two paper clips (both of iron with copper on top, I guess). Barely noticable from the front (the cable goes to my iPhone which I use for the photos.)

Paper clips are always useful (lock picking, CD drive emergency ejection, making chains, …) – but what is the penny for?

It’s perfect for opening the battery lock of the MacBook – to remove it while connected to external power, change it or kill power on purpose. (I got this penny from London as change for a Coke, by the way.)

Talking about battery: The capacity visualisation is really fun to watch.

You can also use the MagSafe as a magnet if you want.

Want an extra? If you let the coin snap to the back in the right way, you’ll be rewarded with a funny brrrrrrreng noise.

Brrrrrrreng if your MacBook works!

Mhhh... Sounds Tod A!
